Bitfinex exchange reopens after 2-hour outage due to 'issues'

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex announced Tuesday that it had to "temporarily suspend trading" due to a platform issue.

"We are investigating a platform issue and must temporarily suspend trading," Bitfinex said in a tweet. "Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."

The exchange was down for about two hours, starting at around 11:00 UTC. It resumed operations shortly after 13:00 UTC.

"A small error occurred during an internal server update," a Bitfinex spokesperson said in an email. "We suspended trading as a precautionary measure and in light of the current market conditions which are not volatile." "Trading has been restarted."

Bitcoin (BTC) prices on rival exchange Coinbase fluctuated between $41,030.21 and $40,665.31 during the Bitfinex dip, according to TradingView.
